The stealership replaced the thermostat and 'conjuction' for $1200, and now say they cannot regen the dpf and it needs replacement (they did not obviously drive to induce regen). I haven't driven with my DPF warning for more than 100 miles for sure (before the visit to the stealership). I am wondering if it is worth trying to regen the dpf myself.
DPF regeneration refers to the procedure of cleaning and emptying the diesel particulate filter of soot that is created by the process of combustion. Burning off the soot particles requires heating the diesel particulate filter to a very high temperature.

Reset DPF calculated value it's only for when you replace your dpf DO NOT PERFORM THIS if you don't replace it. You have to do the regeneration while driving Go to Engine -> Adaptation -> Group 13 - Change from ASCI to Hex By pressing on it -> put new value 1 and click do it.
There also was a post how taking the dpf apart and knocking holes threw it too alleviate any back pressure so there would be no more regen cycles. Drawback from that was there will be exhaust smoke instead of clean exhaust. I imagine eliminating the dpf would be the same. With the XR3140h, the regen is every 50 hours like clockwork.
