Even if my R1200R has only 8 months and 10330 km so I decided to change the final drive oil: both drain and filler plug aren't easy to unscrew until the end (by hand, without lever arm) oil drain: unscrew filler plug (with allen / BTR / HC 6 mm): new oil, sealing washers on plugs, and syringe:
24. Inside the filter cover is a black rubber o-ring. Pry it off with a screwdriver. Coat the new o-ring with fresh oil, and insert the ring into the cover. 25. Press the new filter into the filter housing. The hole in the filter, of course, must face the bike. There is a protrusion onto which the filter will seat.

PREFACE: Your /5 & later BMW Airhead motorcycle has a well-deserved reputation for reliability & exceptionally long life, if the engine is kept properly lubricated. Regular oil & filter changes based on both oil quality, time, & mileage, are required . Regular oil changes are more important on the Airheads than on modern cars.

4. Can you confirm the oil filter is BMW 11 11 7 658 311? I'm finding it surprisingly hard to determine. I don't want to get into oil, but probably going to use the Castrol Racing 4T 10W40 unless someone tells me that is bad for the BMW. 5. Tires.. Going to embark on the final drive fluid change in the not too distant future on my 2019 R1250GSA. Got the upgraded magnetic plug from beemer boneyard and I’m a bit concerned it won’t fit. Using the maintenance video from [mention]Adam chandler [/mention] , he has one but mine doesn’t look like that.
First remove exhaust from the pipe and take off your rear brake reservoir. Then take out the bottom two subframe bolts (one on each side) Note: The BMW Manual also suggests this method. However it suggests tying a strap to the rear sub-frame cross bar, and tie it to the steering.
